Volunteer Trail Stewards Marsh Work Day

June 26, 2021 @ 9:00 am

Dear Wonderful Volunteers,
Summer is definitely here . . . sunshine, wind, and warmer temperatures . . . with the unexpected bonus last weekend of a good rainstorm. Everything is growing. We are going to work on the Bay Trail for our Saturday, June 26, work day.  We’ll start at 9 am.  I am hoping that we can run a couple of mowers along the 3-4 feet along the trail going south, make a concerted effort to get rid of the Scotch Broom especially that large patch near the second bridge going south, cut back fennel, do some weed eating and trash removal.  There is lots to be done.
I am planning to set up in the small parking lot near the entrance to the City Corporation Yard.  Volunteers will want to use the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center parking lot on South G Street and walk over (see my map below).  The Humboldt Trails Council has lifted the cap on the number of volunteers we can have at work days so there is no need to RSVP. However, we will still require masks and social distancing if you are not vaccinated (please get vaccinated . . . all of the hospitalizations in Humboldt County have been people who have not been vaccinated).  I will provide packaged snacks, have hand sanitizer, and have my usual supply of gloves. Of course, don’t attend if you are not feeling well.
